GWA Service Learning Day - Sandwich Project

Gateway Academy students had a service learning day on Thursday, February 15th.  The Gateway community donated bread, cheese, and sandwich meat so students could make sandwiches for The Sandwich Project.  The Sandwich Project is an organization that helps provide meals for homeless people in Minneapolis.  Students were able make about 150 sandwiches for this cause.  Additionally, Gateway students helped the Riverview custodial staff with various projects throughout the building.  Students helped Mr. Dorn with picking up recycling from classrooms throughout Riverview and cleaned lunchroom tables.

Students at Gateway Academy participate in multiple service projects throughout the year.  The idea is to have students help other people in need and learn about the world around them in a hands on setting.  Other service learning projects that students have completed this year have been cleaning up parks and trails around Farmington and playing bingo with residents at Trinity Care Center.
